Dental veneers are a very popular way to achieve a stunning smile. However, not all veneers are created equal. The tooth-colored shells can be made from all sorts of different materials.
Our practice exclusively offers porcelain veneers because they are far superior in many ways. However, we understand that it can be helpful to learn more about the other available options.
Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain veneers are widely considered the gold standard. They offer a variety of unique benefits that are highly desirable. For example, they feature the most durable and stain-resistant material. They can easily outlast the other types of veneers as long as you take care of them.
Veneers made of porcelain also have the most natural appearance. They mimic the translucent and reflective properties of tooth enamel. Porcelain veneers look like real teeth — but better!
Composite Veneers
Composite veneers are usually made from a tooth-colored resin material. They have a few advantages over porcelain veneers. Namely, they cost less and may require less preparation.
However, they also have some considerable disadvantages compared to their porcelain counterparts. Because they are not as stain-resistant or durable, they rarely last as long. They also tend to look a lot less natural. Getting composite veneers usually means comprising your results.
Removable Veneers
Removable veneers, also known as snap-on veneers or clip-on veneers, are not sold at most dental offices. Available for purchase online, they more closely resemble dental trays or white plastic retainers than veneers. The misleading term is simply a common way to market them.
These “veneers” are typically created without any attention to your teeth or bite. Instead, they are manufactured as prefabricated sets. These veneers often look unnatural. They can also feel foreign and bulky in your mouth. Some people may even experience a lisp while wearing them.
