Types of Dental Bridges

There are two primary types of dental bridges offered in our Round Rock area office. These are:

  • Traditional fixed bridge, supported by teeth on both sides of a gap
  • Cantilever bridge, supported by teeth on only one side of a gap

A third type of bridge, resin bonded, is used to replace entire rows of teeth and is more similar to dentures than other types of bridges.

When teeth are available to support a bridge on both sides of a gap, traditional bridges are recommended. Because they are supported by adjacent teeth on both sides, these bridges are better able to restore bite tension and strength, and are less likely to come loose or need frequent adjustments. However, Dr. Schmid offers a range of treatment options to meet the varied needs of each of our patients and will customize your treatment to address your specific concerns.

When adjacent teeth are not available on both sides or in cases where a resin bonded bridge is required, Dr. Schmid may recommend using dental implants to secure your bridge. This is something that can be discussed in greater detail during your tooth replacement consultation.
